Wow I could swear I did one of these posts last year, but aparently I didn't.
Well, let's look back and dust off this post section.
This year had a couple of bumpy moments but ultimately it was wonderful to me. I feel I learnt a lot within my personal life, I think I'm able to be less blunt now when I need or want to be, in great part thanks to my partner
(oh, here's a little drawing I made of them this year look at that wow )
POLKA(FORRÓ ACTUALLY) POWER
Last past year(last last year?(2023 whatever)) I played the accordion quite a lot, But this past year I played the accordion A LOT. I played my two first festas juninas, which are parties where people traditionally listen to, play, and dance to forró music, a very traditional thing that is all around Brasil in many different forms. Look up Dominguinhos or Sivuca if you wanna see some old dude SHREDDING the bellows.
Here's me being wacky in a festa junina
I played with a clown buddy of mine who got us a bunch of fun gigs playing in schools for very little kids, half the stuff posted on my instagram page this year is videos from that project(I HATE posting there but people in Brasil seem obsessed with using that shitty website for connecting and stuff... so I'm there a lot :/ )
I also put together an awesome sort of ACORDION POWER TRIO and we've been playing here and there on random independent artsy events and fests and wherever we manage to fit into, there are some cool videos of gigs we did this year on my youtube channel
it's always cool to remember that my first time playing "in front" of an audience was at Newgrounds Summer Fest
...maybe this year I'll finally manage to do "Endless Handbag" on the accordion decently (if like 2 people comment "do it pussy" I'll do it)
♪COME SAIL AWAY COME SAIL AWAY COME SAIL AWAY WITH ME♪
I also went to this audition to play accordio in a circus/theater group... and didnt get in...BUUUUUT I met this very cool guy who seemed to like me. told me about this educational project thats been around for a while, where they teach anyone how to sail for free in this huge lake in the middle of São Paulo, which is like the 5th biggest city in the world if you didnt know. So yea, I ended up learning how to sail this year, what'll I do with that knowledge I'm not super sure, I do know becoming a pirate is starting to seem more possible...
this is a video about their project, cool stuff, check them out
SEQUENCE OF A LIFE FORM BRAISED IN SAND
learning saling stuff fueled even more my interest about sea shanties and so now lately I've been a bit obsessed with sea...stuff. My partner who reads a lot, lent me a copy of Moby Dick and that shit GOES HARD as the kids say, I've also read about a bunch of pirate legends spread around latin america, which gives me...ideas...(random sea themed art below)
This month my spouse(maybe I should use the term "mate" haha, English is funny) insisted we go check out this SpongeBob exhibition thing they were having in a museum. I just went with her without giving it much thought.
I LOVED IT. It had a bunch of storyboards, cool displays with Stephen Hillenburg's wacky marine zines, stuff about actual sea animals and silly stuff like "Mr.Crabs' first dollar", only thing I felt was missing was Ween stuff, oh well. Nevertheless it felt like a worthy way to honor Stephen, I've been listening to SpongeBob music nonstop since that day, which in turn fuels my accordionisism.
PS:I was gifted a cool drawing of me as a pinneapple and my mate as a strawberry, but I'm a dumbass and i didnt take any pictures or scanned it and I'm out of town for new years, so yea check back in a week for that, I'll post that somewhere
PSS: happy 2025 lets go, thanks forever NG
